Denmark vs Finland live Euro 2020 match suspended due to Eriksen medical emergency

The Danish soccer federation said Eriksen was awake and in stable condition.

Eriksen, who plays for Inter Milan, was eventually taken away on a stretcher, and the match was suspended.

Finland claimed a shock 1-0 Euro 2020 victory over Denmark in its first major tournament appearance on Saturday, but the match was overshadowed by Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen requiring emergency medical treatment on the pitch.

As the fans in the stadium were waiting for updates, Finland supporters started chanting, "Christian", which was then answered by the Danish fans shouting, "Eriksen". Eriksen's teammates, some in tears, formed a circle around him on the field as paramedics administered CPR.

UEFA confirmed that both sets of players wanted the game to resume tonight and the match will see the first-half resume, followed by a five-minute half-time break and then the second-half. Kjaer, the captain, was particularly emotional, and was subbed off 20 minutes after the 8:30 p.m. restart.

UEFA said both teams had held an emergency meeting before deciding to continue playing.

The 29-year-old came up through Ajax's academy before going on to become a star for the Dutch giants.

UEFA has confirmed that the player has been transferred to the hospital and has been stabilised. The Finland players and staff are visibly anxious, too.

Players on the field and fans in the stands looked distraught during the ordeal with fans attempting to rally in applause to support the player, but it would quickly die down as the concern grew.
