Officials are searching for a gunman after shots were fired at a Los Angeles County fire station, killing one firefighter and injuring at least one other.

The gunfire rang out around 10:55 a.m.at Los Angeles County Fire Department station 81, at 8710 W. Sierra Highway, fire officials said in a tweet.

A suspect shot and killed a firefighter at a fire station, fled the scene, and then set fire to a residence, according to Fox 11 Los Angeles.

While containing the location, authorities saw an individual in a pool outside the house who appeared to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A second victim, also believed to be a firefighter, was flown to Henry Mayo hospital in Newhall with multiple gunshot wounds and in unknown condition. The reported narrative from authorities is that this suspect was off-duty when he shot the 44-year-old firefighter, wounded the captain, and barricaded himself at his home, which ended up on fire.

Officials said there were four people on shift at the time of the shooting, including the fire captain, specialist, and two firefighters.
