Anagnostopoulos, aged 33, claimed that his wife had been murdered by thieves after the robbers tied them both up during a home invasion.

The biometric watch that Crouch wore on her wrist, which recorded a pulse at a time when her husband's testimony should have shown that there was no sign of life for the 20-year-old.

Nikos Rigas, the deputy chairman of the police officers' association of Athens, told state TV that examination of mobile devices, a smartwatch, and cameras had established a timeline that revealed inconsistencies in the pilot's account.

'The perpetrator is her 33-year-old husband, who confessed to his act'.

However, the Hellenic Police said on Thursday the helicopter pilot had now confessed to the crime. Police had issued a 300,000 Euro (£262,000) reward for information.

The couple's infant daughter was found unharmed, and the family dog choked to death on its leash, authorities said.

So after the memorial service for the victim was held on the island of Alonnisos, Anagnostopoulos was escorted by a homicide division group back to the Attica police headquarters in Athens (GADA) for additional testimony.

On Thursday, authorities said new evidence had come to light and that the husband had been summoned for questioning after attending a memorial service on the Aegean Sea island of Alonissos, where Crouch grew up.

Ron Johnson says he will no longer oppose 'strange' Juneteenth holiday
Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza has officially declared Juneteenth an official paid holiday for city employees. In 1980, Juneteenth became a Texas state holiday.

The mayor of Alonissos, Petros Vafinis, told newsit.gr: "The police were very discreet and there was no disturbance at the memorial".

The "suspicious" activity recorded on his cellphone at the time of the murder when he claimed to have been tied up and immobilised.

On May 16, a 30-year-old was arrested in connection with the murder while trying to travel to Bulgaria via Evros in northern Greece with a fake passport, local papers reported.

Ms Crouch was a student who was born in Greece but held a British passport.

"What I and my family and my wife's family went through, let no one go through it again", he said, according to Greek news outlet Proto Thema.

"We begged the thieves not to harm us".

Earlier this month, police asked the public for "patience" after admitting they still had not found a getaway auto or any suspects in the alleged crime, the New York Post reported.

"They will be caught".
