Kamala Harris, Speaking in Guatemala, Warns Against Making 'Dangerous Trek' to U.S. Border: 'Do Not Come. Do Not Come.'

Vice President Kamala Harris is in Guatemala to meet with President Alejandro Giammattei, and during their joint press conference Monday, the vice president said anyone thinking about making the unsafe trek to the US-Mexico border should not come. She then added, "I want to be clear to folks in this region who are thinking about making that risky trek to the United States-Mexico border: Do not come". "If they do, [it's] usually for one of two reasons: fleeing some type of harm, or to stay means they can not provide for their essential needs or the needs of their family".

Kamala Harris did not receive a warm welcome in Guatemala after the country's president blamed the Biden administration for the border crisis. On Monday, the vice president met with Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei.

Harris talked about the creation of a task force to crack down on smuggling and human trafficking, and said, "The underlying reason for so much of what we are seeing in terms of this level and type of corruption is about profit".

The U.S. will also donate 500,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses to Guatemala, Harris said.

Speaking at a news conference with Giammattei, Harris delivered a blunt message to anyone thinking of making the unsafe journey north: "Do not come".

Record numbers of people, mostly from Central America, have come to the US border with Mexico in recent months to try to seek asylum, fleeing violence and corruption.

Pentagon UFO report 'doesn't rule out aliens' - although finds no evidence
The US Defence Department has long resisted releasing details about UFO sightings but will this month release a report. In 2019, the Pentagon confirmed the authenticity of the videos, which it said showed "unexplained aerial phenomena".

Guatemala is one of three countries referred to as the "Northern Triangle", with neighbors El Salvador and Honduras making up the other two, which are seen as the primary source of migrants headed north to safety in the US.

Still, her responsibilities in this role have generated some confusion and criticism, with some Republican lawmakers lambasting the vice president for not visiting the southern border despite rising numbers of migrants attempting to cross.

Harris will also stop in Mexico City on this first trip in her assignment to spearhead efforts to address the root cause of the surge in migration.

"I will continue to be focused on that kind of work as opposed to grand gestures", she said. And I believe, if you come to our border, you will be turned back. "Do not come", she said. So let's discourage our friends, our neighbors, our family members from embarking on what is otherwise an extremely unsafe journey, where in large part the only people who benefit are coyotes.

The group will complement the efforts to build cases against corrupt actors in the region, the statement said.
