Lilibet was Queen Elizabeth's childhood nickname.

They have been receiving backlash for their explosive interview with US TV host Oprah Winfrey in March this year.

The Sussexes' newborn daughter is the 11th great-grandchild for Queen Elizabeth and the fifth grandchild for Prince Charles. Their son, Archie, was born a year later.

An earlier shortened statement had been given out by Buckingham Palace, confirming that the senior royals had been "informed" of the birth.

It also makes her a dual US-UK citizen - meaning that the youngest Sussex could potentially go on to become US President when she grows up - while also being in line to the British throne.

The couple issued a statement along with the announcement on Sunday, writing, "She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we've felt from across the globe".

"My husband and I are thrilled to soon be welcoming a daughter - it's a feeling of joy we share with millions of other families around the world", the Duchess told the audience at the event, meant to promote Covid-19 vaccine equity and gender equality.

Meghan said it was hard for her to understand why there were concerns within the Royal Family about her son's skin colour.

Meghan had previously disclosed that she suffered a miscarriage last summer in a moving opinion piece for the New York Times.

The Palace, however, refuted the duchess' claims and instead referred to an old royal rule put into place over 100 years ago by King George V as the reason Archie isn't an HRH like his cousins the Cambridges.

Harry and Meghan's first child, Archie, was born in 2019.

That all might change when Prince Charles takes the throne.

"Prince Charles has wanted for a very long time to cut the monarchy down to save costs and to make people be worth the money that they get from the taxpayer", she told United Kingdom broadcaster talkRadio in April.

Harry and American actor Meghan Markle married at Windsor Castle in May 2018.

Angela theorised that Harry and Meghan - who now live in California after stepping back as senior royals in January 2020 - might be "ditched" from the family altogether.
