Butler County Sheriff Danny Bond said multiple people were also injured. Once it nears the coast early Monday, the National Hurricane Center predicts, it will intensity and regain tropical-storm strength. AP's earlier story follows below.

Pickup trucks pass each other on the flooded Cedar Lake Road in Biloxi, Miss., Saturday, June 19, 2021, as water from Tropical Storm Claudette begins to recede.

In addition to the 10 people who died in the two-vehicle crash on Saturday, a tree fell on a house near the Tuscaloosa city limits - killing a 24-year-old man and a 3-year-old boy, Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit's Capt. Marty Sellers told Tuscaloosa News.

"Heavy Rains and Tropical-Storm-Force Winds Continue Along Portions of the Northern Gulf Coast", the agency announced on Twitter.

Meanwhile, almost two dozen people were rescued by boat in Northport, Alabama, due to flooding, WVUA-TV reported. A shelter was opened in Northport.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham tweeted that nearby Village Creek in Ensley had risen above the flood level to 13 feet (4 meters).

The system was located about 25 miles (35 kilometers) west of Atlanta.

Tropical storm Claudette which formed in the Atlantic, producing heavy rainfall, has weakened to a tropical depression on Saturday evening, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.

Escambia County Sheriff Heath Jackson said the alleged tornado "almost leveled" the mobile home park, knocked down trees in the house, and stripped the roof of the high school gymnasium. Most of the damage occurred in or near the towns of Bruton and East Bruton, about 48 miles (77 km) north of Pensacola, Florida.

"It kind of affected everybody", Jackson said. "But with those mobile homes being built so close together it can take a toll on them a lot more than it can on houses that are spread apart".

The storm also rained floods north of Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana, and along the MS coast, flooding the streets and, in some areas, pushing water into homes. Later, the storm was drenching the Florida Panhandle and, well inland, a broad expanse of Alabama.

According to forecasters, the system can rain 5 to 10 inches (12 to 25 centimeters) in the area, allowing an isolated accumulation of 15 inches (38 centimeters).

Tornado watches and warnings were also posted from MS to Florida with threats of rip currents and high surf near the shoreline.

The NHC noted that a National Ocean Service station on Petit Bois Island, Miss. had recently recorded maximum winds of 39 miles per hour with a gust to 46 miles per hour.
