President Biden, the pride of an Irish American working-class family from a Pennsylvania coal town, was invited for tea at Windsor Castle on Sunday.

The Colour, or ceremonial flag, being trooped past the soldiers was the Colour of the 2nd Battalion Scots Guards with the regiment's F Company given the task of performing the honour.

It comes at the end of the G7 summit in Cornwall, where leaders of the world's biggest economies have discussed issues including vaccines and climate change.

She had met Biden and his wife, Jill, at the summit of G7 leaders on Friday, hosting a reception at the Eden project eco-visitor attraction.

The Bidens travelled from Newquay, Cornwall, on Air Force One to London's Heathrow Airport before taking the Marine One helicopter the short distance to Windsor.

A Guard of Honour formed of the Queen's Company First Battalion Grenadier Guards gave a Royal Salute, and the United States national anthem was played.

It was perhaps a bittersweet moment, the first such ceremony since the death of her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, in April.

President Biden described Queen Elizabeth as an "extremely gracious" woman who reminds him of his mother after meeting her at Windsor Castle.

Palm Beach County Commissioner Melissa McKinlay asked for thoughts and prayers for the victims. Detectives from the Violent Crimes Division is now on scene and investigating the shooting.

It is believed the visit overran by 10 minutes.

Following the visit to Windsor, the first lady returns to Washington, D.C. The president travels on to Brussels for two days of meetings with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and European Commission leaders, and then to Geneva, where he'll conclude his weeklong trip with a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"I said I wish we could stay longer, maybe we could hold the cars up a minute, and stuff".

"She was very generous", Biden said.

Biden, who first met the queen in 1982 as a Democratic senator for DE, said following the meeting that she was "extremely gracious" and that she reminded him of his mother in terms of "the look of her and the generosity". "In terms of the look of her and just the generosity". The Republican and his wife Melania shook hands with Queen Elizabeth II and her late husband Prince Philip instead of curtsying and bowing, while the Democrat made a speech over the UK's national anthem.

And on Saturday, she reviewed a scaled-down Trooping of the Colour, also at Windsor, as part of her official birthday celebrations.

It was the second consecutive year that her official birthday was marked at Windsor Castle, rather than on Horse Guards, due to the pandemic. President Biden has cited his mother Catherine, who died in 2010 at the age of 92, as the "profound influence" on his life, helping him to overcome a stutter in his youth and organising the coffee morning fundraisers when he first ran for the Senate in 1972 at the age of 29.

She has since met all 14 elected U.S. leaders during her 69 years on the throne, except for Lyndon B Johnson. Biden's predecessor, Donald Trump, visited in June 2019.
