Rep. Omar's Remarks Cause Uproar Among Democrats

Pelosi top Democrats slam Omar’s anti-American anti Israel statements

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday sided with Jewish Democrats in rebuking Rep. Ilhan Omar's statements equating the U.S and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban. All it took was a tweet in which Ms Omar said that "unthinkable atrocities" have been "committed by the US, Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan and the Taliban". "It is the congresswoman's role as a member of Congress conducting federal oversight to follow the facts, ask questions of the administration and work to make sure the public understands our government shouldn't deny any person from seeking justice".

Hamas, the Gaza-based terrorist organization that controls the Gaza Strip, released a statement Friday thanking Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) for "defending justice and the rights of the oppressed".

"Freedom of speech doesn't exist for Muslim women in Congress".

Rep. Ilhan Omar called out a group of fellow Democrats for taking her comments out of context.

CONGRESSWOMAN Ilhan Omar's comparison of Hamas and the Afghan Taliban with the U.S. and Israel has raised a media storm in her home country. The benefit of the doubt doesn't exist for Muslim women in Congress. House Democratic leadership should be ashamed of its relentless, exclusive tone policing of Congresswomen of color. But when it's Democrats, it's especially hurtful.

"Citing an open case against Israel, US, Hamas & Taliban in the ICC isn't (a) comparison or from "deeply seated prejudice", she said shortly after her colleagues' statement was issued, adding that "the truth can't be hidden or silenced forever". "We're your colleagues. Talk to us directly". "Enough with the anti-Blackness and Islamophobia".

Two arrested after French President Macron slapped during crowd walkabout
The man, who took the French President by the arm, shouted: "Down with Macronia" ('A Bas La Macronie') as he delivered the blow. Le Pen echoed the prime minister's sentiments, tweeting that acts of violence against the president are "unacceptable".

Nevertheless, the Hamas movement presented many initiatives, the first of which was on the lips of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the founder of the movement, and the latest of which was the statements of the movement's leader in Gaza Yahya Sinwar after the last aggression, the need to spare civilians the scourge of the conflict and the movement's keenness on that, but all these initiatives were rejected by the occupation The Zionist, and indeed, in every aggression, the last of which was the aggression on Gaza for 11 days, deliberately and brutally targeted civilians, with no aim other than to raise the humanitarian cost of this aggression, in the hope of breaking the will of our people and their support for the resistance forces. Israeli air strikes killed at least 256 Palestinians, including 66 children.

The Republican party is expected to train attention on Omar's words when the House returns next week from recess. She did not tweet the statement. The NRCC is the House GOP campaign organisation.

Republicans - and some Democrats - demanded that she be removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee, but Democratic leaders refused.

While Omar came under fire from all directions, several progressive Democrats have spoken out in her defense. Two months after she arrived in Congress in 2019, the House approved a resolution condemning anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry - without mentioning her - after she made remarks that critics said accused Israel supporters of having dual allegiances.

"We must have the same level of accountability and justice for all victims of crimes against humanity", Omar wrote in a post questioning of Secretary of State Antony Blinken. She's compared the Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Taliban now. Some Jewish Democrats have broadly criticized their colleagues, but until Wednesday refrained from naming them. They said she should "clarify" what she meant. Of course she uses false equivalencies. "The constant harassment & silencing from the signers of this letter is unbearable", she wrote. Here is one we just got. She has been critical of Israel and is a prominent voice on Palestinian human rights.

"Equating the United States and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban is as offensive as it is misguided", said the statement. "And now some of her own Democratic colleagues are ginning up the same Islamophobic hate against her, accusing her of giving "cover to terrorist groups" simply for exercising oversight over a criminal investigation".
